The brand's tone of voice sits in a PDF nobody opens, or lives in one person's head. Every new copywriter or freelancer gets the tone, the banned topics and the competitors explained again from scratch. Some of it always gets lost along the way.

With Brandbass

  1. 01You share links to the brand's site and social accounts, or fill in the profile by hand if there aren't any yet.
  2. 02The system drafts it: goals, audience, tone, banned topics, competitors, and examples of what worked and what didn't. You review it and edit any field.
  3. 03Ideas and briefs get checked against the profile. Banned topics work as a hard filter: an idea that touches one never makes it into the list.
  4. 04Editing the profile creates a new version. New recommendations are built on it, while old ones stay tied to the version they came from.

What a profile looks like

One document per brand. Edit a field right in the profile, and the new version applies to the next ideas.

Profile · Coffee shop
Goals
Bring new guests in for morning coffee
Audience
Neighbors within a 10-minute walk, on their way to work in the morning
Tone
Warm, simple, no jokes about caffeine
Banned topics
Never compare us to rival shops by name, never promise weight loss
Competitors
Ember, the coffee shop across the street

Under the hood

Manual setup works

If the brand doesn't have a site or social accounts yet, the profile gets filled in by hand, using the same fields.

Facts show their source

Next to every fact the system found on its own, you can see exactly where it came from. A wrong fact is easy to spot and fix.

Versions, not overwrites

Every recommendation remembers which version of the profile built it. Editing the profile doesn't rewrite past ideas and briefs after the fact.

Won't the system get a complex brand wrong?

The draft profile isn't always right the first time, but it stays a draft until you check it: any field can be edited by hand. Banned topics work as a hard filter, so an idea that touches one won't slip into the list even by accident. A mistake in the profile doesn't carry forward either: once you fix it, new recommendations are built on the new version.
